ABOUT Hermès
Est. in: Paris, France, 1837
Connected to the world of equestrianism, the origins of Hermès (1837) lie in a Parisian workshop where high-quality harnesses and saddles were made. The fame of the house in leatherwork led it to diversify its offerings by creating bags, accessories, fashion, and perfumes. 1951 marks the beginning of Hermès perfumes, debuting in perfumery with the great master perfumer Edmond Roudnitska and Eau d’Hermès, a fragrance that combines citrus notes with a leather accord to reflect the brand’s heritage. Ten years later, Calèche, another of its iconic perfumes, was launched, and in 1995, 24 Faubourg was introduced. The 2000s brought a change in direction for Hermès' fragrance collection with the hiring of its own perfumer, Jean-Claude Ellena, who worked for the house from 2004 to 2016. His work includes some of the brand's most iconic perfumes, such as Terre d’Hermès (2006), Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (2005), and Voyage (2010). In 2014, Christine Nagel joined as Hermès' perfumer, and in 2016, she took over from Jean-Claude Ellena as the head of perfumes and olfactory heritage of the house. Since her first fragrance, Galop, followed by Twilly and Un Jardin à Cythère, Nagel has introduced a feminine touch to her fragrances, maintaining the olfactory link to the brand’s values of elegance, purity, and discreet sensuality.
