Aldehydes are organic compounds found in various natural elements. Aldehydes used in perfume have a fresh, almost soapy smell. Their role in perfumery is to heighten the scent of each note, like making the aroma of rose smell more bubbly and airy, while green notes become fresher, and gourmand notes become soft and lighter. Aldehydes are also used to enhance the projection of a scent, also known as sillage.
